Requirements Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of Revenue Cycle, review medical record documentation and accurately code the primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or CPT-4 coding conventions. Sequence the diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines. Ensure DRG/APC assignment is accurate. Abstract and compile data from medical records for appropriate optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
Required Qualifications - Must be at least18 years of age.
- Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent.
- An AAPC or AHIMA certification to include CAH-BS, CCS, CPC, or CIC.
- At least 5 years of active coding experience in: Facility Inpatient Coding, and Compliant Query practices.
- Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process
- Demonstrated knowledge coding diagnoses, operations, and non-operative procedures utilizing the ICD10-CM and CPT coding systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, statistics, and computer skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of MGRMC staff and support personnel required.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
- Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
- Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.
Preferred Qualifications - Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.
