PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Hiring salary: $22.00/hour

This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT Plan, design, and teach group exercise classes for the City of Aurora's recreation division.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsible for choreography/planning of exercise classes
- Develop exercise programs designed for a variety of levels in a small and/or large group setting
- Keep effective communication during class with participants using verbal cues/corrections/guidance
- Set up of equipment and music prior to class and breaking down/cleaning after class
- Keep up with the new trends of fitness to implement in classes/programs
- Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries or health issues
- Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure clients exercise properly and safely
- Perform minor first aid and respond to emergencies if needed
- Effectively motivate participants and clients
- Available to work on early or late shifts and on weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education :
- High School Diploma; degree in Kinesiology or Sports Science preferred
- Nationally recognized group fitness or personal training certification (NASM, ACE, ISSA, NSCA, etc.)
Preferred Experience :
- At least 1 year of experience teaching fitness classes/personal training.
Knowledge: - Knowledge of diverse exercises and how to adjust plans according to each client's needs
- Ability to instruct and motivate people
Abilities: - Instruct and motivate group fitness participants
- Maintain a safe environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Teamwork
Licenses and Certifications Required: - Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor from accredited institution
- CPR/AED certification
WORKING CONDITIONS Essential Personnel: - When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands: - Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds at a time
- Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.
- Teaching of fitness classes as scheduled.
Work Environment: - Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditions
Equipment Used: - Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of the Library automated systems
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
- Knowledge of fitness equipment and accessories.
