The Sr. Import/Export Logistics Specialist is responsible for overseeing all international freight shipments, acting as a key liaison to ensure smooth and efficient transactions with global partners. This role involves the planning, execution, and management of logistics processes to dispatch, track, and coordinate shipment bookings. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and cost tracking, identifying risks and opportunities, and working closely with freight agents to ensure high standards in delivery and execution. This role requires strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to handle a wide range of tasks in a fast-paced environment. The position reports directly to the Import/Export Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement import/export policies and procedures (e.g., booking shipments, dispatching drayage, maintaining cost records, preparing commercial documents, and coordinating carrier nominations).
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure material availability and avoid demurrage charges.
  • Coordinate with external freight agents to ensure proper equipment use, troubleshoot issues with bookings or carriers, and set standards for future shipments.
  • Manage direct communication with suppliers and freight agents to track shipments and ensure timely delivery.
  • Expedite critical shipments to meet time-sensitive needs.
  • Work closely with brokers , freight forwarders, and carriers to manage vessel bookings.
  • Create shipment tenders and documents using the company’s ERP system , following routing guides, and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Process import air and ocean documentation for customs clearance.
  • Audit invoices to verify contract pricing, storage fees, and demurrage charges, and work with Accounts Payable on discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-effective, safe, and efficient transportation of goods.
  • Support carrier rate management by updating rate schedules, requesting quotes, and managing contract repositories.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics department.
  • Assist in contract review and negotiation processes through research, data collection, and analysis.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with freight agents, partners, and internal teams.
  • Perform data entry into internal ERP systems accurately and on time.
  • Provide backup support to other logistics team members and the Import/Export Manager as needed.
  • Participate actively in Request for Proposals (RFPs) with carriers, brokers, and business partners.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Logistics or a related business field.
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, trucking, and ocean freight, with a strong focus on imports.
  • In-depth knowledge of international logistics and U.S. customs procedures.
  • Proficiency with ERP and MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills, with an eye for detail and process efficiency.
  • Excellent customer focus, problem-solving abilities, and conflict management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptability to change in processes to support innovation and competitiveness.
