The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

This is a professional (working) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select LAN/WAN related network monitoring services according to higher education system policies and procedures. The position coordinates and implements network software and hardware upgrades of varying complexity. The position troubleshoots and resolves LAN/WAN monitoring performance, connectivity, and related network problems of varying complexity.

1. Responds to network service monitoring interruptions.

2. Works with vendors, staff, management, and customers to ensure monitoring tools are providing sufficient visibility and functionality.

3. Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network capacity planning.

4. Develop and support tools for monitoring and automation.

5. Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and support to central office staff, USG institutions and other customers.

6. Monitors network performance and integrity.

7. Troubleshoots the configuration, reconfiguration, and installation of networking equipment.

8. Installs new network devices.

9. Document processes and procedures related to job functions.

10. Schedules network maintenance.

11. Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages.

12. Performs related duties as assigned.

• Baccalaureate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Over three years of related experience required.

1. Proficiency with complex technical troubleshooting including root-cause analysis, mitigation, and developing solutions.

2. Proficiency with application development, support, troubleshooting, and coding.

3. Proficiency with full-stack development.

4. Proficiency with scripting tools such as Python, PHP, and bash.

5. Proficiency with database design and management including SQL.

6. Proficiency with enterprise network concepts including routing, switching, load balancers, firewalls, data centers, LAN, and WAN.

7. Experience with network automation using technologies such as Ansible, Python, JavaScript, PHP, etc.

8. Experience using software development APIs.

9. Knowledge of networking protocols and concepts.

10. Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures.

11. Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.

12. Skill in decision making and problem solving.

13. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

14. Skill in oral and written communication.

15. Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.

16. Ability to effectively multi-task.
