Job Summary: This position will provide direct supervision to all clients at the level clinically indicated by the Primary Therapist or Program Director. They will build rapport with clients, provide adherent DBT skills coaching, and model effective behavior, all while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries for a mental healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities: - Demonstrate commitment to working within a Comprehensive DBT Program and utilizing DBT in working with teens
- Work to learn and implement effective behavior contingency management strategies as directed by the Clinical Director and Primary Therapists.
- Understand or work to understand Biosocial theory, DBT Assumptions, Dialectics, and Treatment Hierarchy within 90 days of hire.
- Complete DBT competency examination within 90 days of hire with a passing score
- Work to build mastery in utilizing acceptance and change strategies with clients in the milieu as directed by Primary Therapist or Program Director.
- Assist clients in moving from dysregulated to regulated utilizing DBT distress tolerance tools daily.
- Ensure that the clients move through the daily program schedule on time
- Enforce program rules and implement behavioral consequences
- Implement all required safety protocols (i.e. body checks, enhanced supervision, house and room checks, etc.) per standard procedure and upon direction from the Primary Therapist or Program Director
- Conduct and document client body checks and relevant findings in the client’s chart
- Conduct client risk assessments, per the Risk Assessment Policy and Procedure
- Facilitate psychoeducational and skills application groups, as assigned, and complete relevant group notes within required deadlines.
- Document client behavior, mood, and affect in Milieu Notes for each shift and have brief verbal shift change discussion with the previous shift RCs, when possible
- Support clients in completing school and treatment assignments and ensure appropriate use of facility computers
- Draft and send the Comm Log before the end of each shift, read the recent Comm Logs at the start of each shift to determine current client needs
- Implement individualized behavioral interventions as prescribed by the Primary Therapist and Program Director
- Facilitate Emergency Drills, as assigned by Lead Residential Counselors, Facility Nurse, or Program Director
- Notify Facility Nurse of any client medical concerns, potential medication side-effects, etc.
- Notify Primary Therapist and Program Director of any clinical or behavioral concerns observed
- Immediately report any safety concerns to the Program Director
- Contact the On-Call Nurse or On-Call Therapist as needed, per the On-Call Policy and Procedure
- Attend Treatment Team meetings weekly and participate by sharing client observations, brainstorming interventions, asking relevant questions, etc.
- Attend weekly Consultation Team Meeting via zoom.
- Attend weekly skills training group prior to 90-day review.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or GED required; college coursework or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Experience working with teens preferred
- Experience working in a behavioral healthcare setting preferred
- Must be able to pass a LiveScan background check and clear federal and state criminal background checks, and child abuse indexes.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license
- Comfort with transporting clients in the company vehicle
Preferred Qualifications: - Previous work or volunteer experience with teens or working in a group home (teens or adults)
Pay Range: - $19-$26 an hour (future earning potential)
