The Web Report Design Agency

We use WordPress to build useful, engaging, and interactive web reports, data dashboards, portals, learning hubs, infographics, and resource libraries.

It’s time to ditch the PDF report.

Our web reports are easy-to-update, mobile-responsive, auto-translatable, Google-search friendly, interactive, multi-media friendly, and a bunch of other things that you won’t get with a PDF report.

“Having worked with Chris on multiple projects, I’m especially impressed with how he can create a visual “feel” that really matches the client’s and project’s needs and style. Whether the work highlights a lot of quantitative data through clear, attractive charts and such, or focuses more on qualitative data and visuals to tell a story, Chris creates inviting, engaging, interactive reports that our clients are uniformly thrilled with.”

“ReportPress is a game changer for our deliverables. We worked with Chris to turn a static report into an interactive website that was branded for the client, visually compelling, and centered user-experience. Rather than scroll through a lengthy report, users can easily navigate to what’s most important to them. I highly recommend working with Chris to transform data products into something useful and engaging. Plus, Chris is awesome to work with!”

About Us

We know evaluation, research, and web design.

Chris Lysy, our founder, built a career as a contract researcher, program evaluator, and data visualization specialist. But Chris has also been developing and hosting WordPress websites for over 15 years.

ReportPress is a merger of those two skillsets. Nowhere else can you expect to find a WordPress designer and developer with a social science masters degree and over two decades of data experience.

About Our Founder

Chris Lysy launched ReportPress in 2023. Outside of this agency, Chris is known for drawing evaluation comics, blogging, and teaching evaluators and researchers how to become confident data designers. Most days you will find him, with his little dog, working in his office in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina or chilling at home with his wife and daughter.

If you want to create an effective report, start by assuming that your audience is overwhelmed. Then design accordingly.

Chris Lysy

Founder – ReportPress

“The quality, relevance, and accessibility of his final products speak for themselves. But the process of working with Chris is what I find most exemplar. Chris asks the right questions, brings rich expertise, is one helluva problem-solver, doesn’t shy away from the messiness of creative innovation, and is fun to work alongside! The rewarding process of co-creating with Chris is why our firm already engaged him on another body of work for a new client.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Chris is more than happy to answer any questions you have during your consultation. But here are answers to some of the more common questions.

Most people share their reports as PDFs. Because of this, their reports are NOT auto-updating, SEO-friendly, mobile-responsive, multi-lingual, easy to evaluate, or generally accessible to many people.

There are all sorts of other tools you can use to publish online reports. I’ve tried a bunch, but I believe WordPress is one of, if not the best, option for accessible online reporting. There is a reason why it supports like half of the websites on the internet.

Effective and accessible online reports require a mix of skillsets.

  • A UX Designer
  • A Web Developer
  • A Graphic Designer
  • A Data Analyst
  • A Copywriter

Does your website person do all of that? Does your data analyst know anything about web design? Does your graphic designer understand data?

I have a strange mix of skills and experience, it lets me do things that would usually take a much larger team (and a much larger budget). Working together we can create better web reports faster.

Those tools might be great for internal dashboards and exploratory visual analysis. But WordPress is so much better for modern accessible narrative style reports. It also doesn’t cost nearly as much to maintain.

I am also a big fan of these tools. But I use them for design and illustration, not for sharing on the web.

The reason is accessibility. A well-designed WordPress site is better suited for delivering accessible reports to a wide range of digital audiences. Perhaps one day this will change, but that day is not today.

This is up to you. If you would like to host the report on your own WordPress website, we can do that. OR I can manage and host the report for you on my ReportPress.net or ReportPress.org domains. I purchased these domains for this purpose and use them to host several digital reports.

There are additional tools and benefits to using my domains, as I’ve licensed a few extra tools you are unlikely to have.

It depends. While many look similar, not all web platforms are the same. Let’s start with a conversation and go from there.

I suggest going public if possible, as it reduces audience barriers and friction. But there are many ways to make a WordPress website private. If you want it private, together we will choose the best option based on the report’s purpose and your audience’s needs.

On the data sharing side, I rely on interactive data visualization and sharing tools that are ISO 27001 compliant. My two favorite tools are Flourish and DataWrapper. Data is hosted only through these platforms and embedded into the reports on WordPress. This also allows data to be managed, meaning it can be updated or taken down.

In short, yes. I know most agencies are not ready to give up on the PDF entirely. I follow a design process that considers the holistic needs of my partners. Sometimes that involves creating both a web report AND a downloadable PDF report at the same time.

But if you ONLY want a PDF (not a web report), I am probably not the best partner for you. But please feel free to connect.

Reports are my specialty, as I love increasing the accessibility of useful data and analysis.

But yes, I have designed all sorts of different WordPress websites (this includes business sites, community sites, courses, and more). If you’re curious just ask.

Certainly. The current standard for video is to use a major hosting platform (such as YouTube or Vimeo) and then embed the videos inside of the report. PDFs and slide decks are easily embeddable within a page, as are audio files or other media you may like to share.

Your project will be directed by our founder, Chris Lysy. Chris prefers to embed himself within your own project team working collaboratively. If the needs of the project are greater, or the timeline is shorter, we may consider hiring additional consultants to support. If that is required, I have connections and will seek approval before bringing anyone else onto the project.

This depends a lot on the importance and complexity of the report. If it is super important, it may be worth spending more time in the UX design phase. If it has a lot of data in need of cleaning and visualization, then it might require a lot more analysis and design support.

Most of the reports I create fall into three budget ranges.

  • Small Budget – $5,000 USD (requires ~5 days of my time, total)
  • Medium Budget – $10,000 USD (requires ~10 days of my time, total)
  • Large Budget – $25,000 USD (requires ~25 days of my time, total)

These budgets can be tweaked as necessary. I prefer to work using a flat fee payment structure based on a mutually agreed upon budget.

I also have a project minimum of $5,000. As an independent, I just don’t have the capacity to take on smaller projects.

In short, yes. Most client reporting work is semi-private, or simply designed for specific audiences. As such, I prefer to walk potential clients through examples instead of sharing a public portfolio. I have a couple of generic examples in my ReportPress gallery, but I can share a lot more with you over a Zoom call.

This also depends on the importance and complexity of the report. And on your schedules as well as my own. But generally projects can be completed in anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months.

Planning ahead can help make sure you secure a spot on my calendar. I am an independent consultant so I do not take on more work than I can handle.

Like most things these days, let’s start with a chat over Zoom.
